The Catalan regional parliament awarded the medal of honour to Carola Rackete, captain of the German rescue ship Seawatch 3 and Oscar Camps, founder of the NGO Proactive Open Arms in recognition of their humanitarian work. Pep Guardiola honoured them both during the event.

The football manager commended their work and called them true «heroes» who put themselves in danger to save the lives of others. He labelled their work as «essential», given the lack of support from European governments. He added, «A world which does not rescue, is a world which is sinking where societies will drown»

Pep ended his brilliant speech by paraphrasing Johan Cruyff, his footballing mentor, «Go out and rescue, please»
