The golf level of the Legends Trophy grows year after year and for the first time in the history of the Legends Trophy, the tournament has been decided in a ‘play off’, after Alain Boghossian and Andriy Shevchenko finished tied with an extraordinary +1. The Frenchman achieved his fourth consecutive title on the second hole of the playoff, while the podium was completed by Gianfranco Zola, who finished the tournament with a magnificent +2.

The Ukrainian forward, 2004 Golden Ball winner, debuted in Legends Trophy and was the main star of the tournament. Among the former football players who also played at the Legends Trophy for the first time in this fifth edition were the French striker Christophe Dugarry, world champion in 1998 and European Champion in 2000 with his national team; English right-back Glen Johnson, formerly of Chelsea and Liverpool; the Italian midfielder Roberto di Matteo, who as a coach won the Champions League with Chelsea; Uruguayan striker Diego Forlán; and Marcos Alonso, who is still a player at FC Barcelona.
